易富贤表示，日本生育率低的原因跟中国类似，具体如下：
一是心理上，不愿意生孩子。传统的生育文化已经被现代社会经济摧毁，传统的养儿防老已经被社保制摧毁。多子多福在现在变成了多子少福，因为养孩子的成本是父母承担，而回报是给社会的。生育孩子给父母带来的精神回报和物质回报都已经非常微弱，因此生育动力不足。
二是物质上，养不起孩子。年轻人刚进入职场是弱势群体，工资水平养活自己都困难，没有能力成家生育。
